"We have a growing need for electrical power, but we do not have any new nuclear plants or any new coal fired plants. There's nothing on the drawing boards. We're heading for a crisis.

"The environmentalists seem to be excited about making the crisis worse rather than helping to solve it. And the worst thing you can do is kill the [nuclear plants], because that means more fossil fuels and the global warming will then be much worse.

"We need nuclear energy to reduce the effects of global warming. People will probably be convinced of that after a few hot summers; you know it's getting there."
